It’s delicious, of course. For a long time, Riga Gold sprats were my best answer to “if you could only have 1 tin for the rest of your life” and they’re probably still in the top 4. I’ve had the regular RG sprats probably about 50 times by now. The question we’re all wondering is – is there any noticeable difference with these in olive oil? My answer is a hesitant ‘maybe.’ Without trying them side by side, I *want* to say they’re slightly softer with a slightly richer mouthfeel. But that’s quite possibly the placebo effect because it *feels* like olive oil is fancy.
On the strong side of medium firmness, these sprats have spectacular smokiness jkust as you’ve come to expect. Moisture levels are wonderful and the oil is ever-so-slightly fruity. According to me, the tin is perfect for eating straight out of the tin at room temp with no accompaniments. While I’m not sure if they’re really any different than the regular tin, a few things are for sure … (1) I’m going to get them again, (2) I’ll probably do a side-by-side taste test sometime, and (3) Riga Gold sells some GREAT sprats.
