These were a yummy surprise. The lemon compliments the fishy taste of the sprats perfectly. They are so drenched in oil that they fall apart when I put them on rice, but that is not a complaint because it adds to their richness. An umami, citrus bomb that needs to be recommended to more people!

These little fishies were a bit of surprise. What I tend to like about Riga Gold sprats in general is that little bit of toughness, that extra helping of smokiness, as compared, say, to King Oscar offerings. But I’m also on a never-ending quest for more-saturated flavors, whether that’s lemony-ness, spiciness, or what have you. In this offering, Riga Gold has delivered on the lemon promise–the sharp citrus comes through. But it’s as though they went super-light on the smoke, and as a result these don’t have the toothsome bite I’d been looking forward to. So, lemon lovers, enjoy–these are lovely little fish, and they’ll be especially welcome displayed right there in the tin, at your next get-together with friends. But smoky-sprat fans looking for a dash of something different, you might want to get the Riga Gold Delicatesse in Olive Oil and give it a squeeze of fresh lemon at the table.

Like the two reviews before mine, I was absolutely surprised by this tin. Not only do they fit a surprising amount of fish into the thin tin, but damn are they good. Unlike many of the other lemon flavored tins I’ve tried, this one you could really taste the lemon. These are WELL worth the price, and we had these over pasta with a simple cream sauce. I’ll definitely be getting more of these in the future, I was extremely impressed.
