Sweetish, carnalized kind of dried fish flavor…good…no smoke…firm texture…good chew…they seem slightly dried…like in an oven or over a low fire…yet no smoke?…hmmm…very light soy…not salty…no reaction to MSG…
Overall very good, tasty…would buy again…would make a good trail treat…
Had some on Garlic Bagel Chips and this worked…

Fantastic tin. My first time trying tinned eel and was pleasantly surprised. Wonderful smokey and savory flavors, accompanied with very smooth and tender textures. Was not as salty as I had anticipated. Really enjoyed this one accompanied with rice – wish I had also added furikake. Will definitely be purchasing again.

This is probably my favorite tin to exist. With a half cup of jasmine throw it in a rice cooker with a little tamari topped with kewpie mayo, seto fumi furikake, and crispy fried onions and it is one of the best things I’ve ever eaten.

After a long day at the beach and some late shopping, I got home exhausted and needed something quick to eat before bed. I thought of these cans of Old Fisherman Roasted Eel that had just arrived, so I toasted a piece of rye bread, and topped it with the eel. When I first opened the can, the eel didn’t look very appetizing, but I went ahead anyway—and I’m glad I did. The flavor was surprisingly delicious, with a rich, savory taste that perfectly complemented the rye toast. For the price, it’s a great deal, and I’d definitely recommend it for a quick, tasty snack.

At 3.50 a tin, you really can’t go wrong! This tin has an awesome flavor, which is lightly sweet with a lot of Umami! I served it over rice with kimchi and chili crisp, which rocked! The eel is slightly dry, which contrasts the rice quite nicely. I’ll definitely be buying this again!

This is great tin for the price. The eel is a little dry, so I second the remark of putting the entire time in with your rice in a rice cooker, and letting it do its thing. This is a sweet, firm, kinda chewy eel, that goes great with some rice and a little furikake or nori on top.

What a surprise. This was super delicious right outta the tin!
I eat all my first time tins, right outta the tin, to be sure to judge the product without influence from any additional flavors.
This tin excelled in both flaovor and texture.
Slightly sweet and savory.
Just great
