    The tin of Lucas octopus in olive oil was one of my fill-up-the-box-and-surprise-me-tins. I’ll be honest, I’ve been shuffling it to the bottom of the pile. I’ve had octopus in sushi before and have never been impressed with it. It’s always kind of flavorless and too crunchy. After hyping myself up for the first bite of this tinned octopus I immediately said, “Oh!” This turned out to be a lovely surprise, with a tender, tacky bite to it. (Think moist chicken.) Not rubbery or chewy. The olive oil is of decent quality, and the meat is perfectly salted. It has that enjoyable mineral-salinity-umami you would expect from something from the sea. Having never eaten any other tinned octopus, I don’t have anything to compare it to in that regard, however, it was quite tasty and I’ll definitely be ordering more tinned octopus based on this first foray.
