I struggled to open this tin, no matter how hard I tried, I couldn’t get it open with the pull tab! I was able to pop it but I couldn’t get it any further… Nothing a can opener couldn’t solve though! Inside the tin was a generous amount of tuna with lots of oil, it looked really appealing. When I tasted a bite alone, it was well balanced and it tasted good over rice. The tuna seemed like nice quality as well, not dry or fishy at all. I have a smaller appetite so I couldn’t finish the entire tin but that just means I get to look forward to some tasty leftovers.

Ginger! It’s such a perfect flavor note for canned seafood. (I couldn’t love more the Angelo Parodi mackerel with ginger and chili peppers.) Here, the bright citrus of the lemon, plus the peppery-but-sweet savor of the ginger carries this skipjack way, way above the crowd of tuna-in-a-little-round-can. I had a meal plan for this tin, but my “taste-test” went by in a blur that saw half the tuna gobbled up while I stood at the counter.
I think it’s worth pointing out that this can is a bit of a sly bargain. Look at the stats: 160 grams/5.3 ounces. For comparison, the very nice Berthe Skipjack Tuna Fillets in Lemon Sauce is 120 grams/4.2 ounces. The math–to the extent I’m able to cipher it out–demonstrates that Mouettes d’Arvor is bringing 30%+ more skipjack to the table. In my kitchen, that meant even though I’d snorffled up nearly half the can, I did still have plenty to build out a nice dish for me breakfast. Victory!
