Description
Ingredients: Sardines, Olive Oil, Sea Salt.
This is definitely a tin you could use to convert someone who thinks that all sardines are gross because they learned it in a cartoon. Hand packed and beautiful, the spines and bones are as undetectable as these tiny fish are delectable.

I’ve never heard of this brand before it showed up on the RTG site but I can say this is a first-rate conserva based on what this tin had to offer. Popping the lid I was somewhat surprised to see that these were medium-sized sardines, had a total of six in my tin. That said, they were beautifully packed in lightly colored olive oil. Flavor was nice and meaty with the texture being firm enough to come out in whole pieces but soft enough to flake apart on toast. Seasoning was excellent too – salt level was muted enough to let the umami take center stage.
The price level is incredible for the quality offered – this tin really hits about its weight class and I look forward to buying this again, along with sampling some of their other offerings. La Barca may be a new kid on the block but I predict they’ll make a name for themselves very quickly!

Beautiful, very shimmery upon opening this one. Perfect medium-soft texture with excellent seasoning right out of the gate. Moist, flaky, there’s absolutely nothing to dislike here. I might even favor these in a Spanish sardine blind taste over (the more expensive) Ramon Pena, to be honest. They might not have the depth of Yurrita sardinillas but hey, that’s a much more expensive option … this tin is clearly a star at this price point and I’ll definitely be ordering these again. In a very short amount of time, La Barca is quickly jumping up my list of go-to “best value” sardines.

Gorgeously packed tin. I had about 8 in mine. I don’t think I’d call them small per-se. They are tender and very neutral and clean tasting. You could add them to any dish and dress them up any way you’d like. I simply ate mine on a cracker with a squeeze of hot sauce and they were perfect. I will definitely order these again! I think they’d be great if you were throwing a tinned fish party– you’d definitely win over people who don’t think they like sardines 🙂

These fish were beautifully packed! I did not expect this level of care at this price. I agree with others that these are not small, IMO. There were 6 perfect pieces in the tin. Initially there was a stronger than average fish scent when we opened the tin. However, the flavor was neutral and smooth. The texture was a little softer than average. If you want to remove the spine/bones, they open right up and come out easily in one piece. These were very nice and would buy again.

As most have noted, these are as clean and pure as can be. I would say medium in size, as well, as my tin, had 6 in it. Perfect shiny fish that were nestled together tail to nose [figuratively speaking, as they are headless]. Simply served on a crisp pita cracker with a bit of Yuzu hot sauce, it is a divine experience at any price. A great intro to a well above-average tin. Will purchase them again. I’ll also try some of the other La Barca products.

I’m probably an intermediate-level sardineator, fwiw. These were gorgeously shiny upon opening. On the soft side, texture-wise (which I think I’ve decided I like better), with a “buttery” mouthfeel and good clean flavor.
These were a part of a order of mostly small sardines, which I’m using to learn more about what I like in a tinned fish, and also to think about which tins my bestie might enjoy. She’s more fish-skeptical than I, but loves the idea of eating more lil fish. Sustainable! Omega 3s! Calcium, etc…
Anyway, I ate these on buttered whole grain crackers with a dollop of Dijon and a spritz of habanero sauce. Yum! But as a tiny tail flopped onto one of my crackers, I thought “this is not the beginner can I was looking for…” This is definitely for someone who can handle a just a few scales and tails. Which, fortunately, I am. I expect to purchase these again to eat all by myself.

Great looking fish, 6 in my can. Average sardine aroma, but a fantastically mild and buttery flavor and texture. A good all-around experience! Punches above it’s weight class!

I will agree with what others have said about the presentation – these are gorgeous fish (despite a few scales). However, my fellow eater and I weren’t crazy about the flavor. They leaned a little fishy for us when eaten straight out of the tin. Throwing them on some buttered sourdough improved things, but for my taste, there are better options at this price point. That being said, I love this medium size for pilchards, others feel differently about their flavor, and they are true showstoppers in appearance, so maybe they’re worth a try!
