This mouth-watering delicacy will make your taste buds tingle, accompanied by a glass of delicious Portuguese wine and friendly company at the table.
The sardines turned round and round in the can. They wanted to be different from their neighbours. They fought and fought, and the discussion caught fire! Well, where there is fire, there is smoke, and smoke always gets the good-looking ones first.

Very nice. Absolutely stunning when you crack the tin, beautiful fish. Texture was excellent, firm enough to stay together but medium on the chew. Smoke was light but present. The oil was a very interesting dark orange that you don’t often see, but still a delicious compliment to the fish. These were begging for a little more salt but were easy enough to eat straight out of the tin. If you love (lightly) smoked Portuguese sardines, you don’t need to think twice about buying this tin … just do it.

Less special than other sardines and Jose Gourmet products I have had. Quite firm texture and medium smokiness. The oil and the meat both were a darker orangey color different from other smoked sardines. Flavor is nothing special, even with the addition of salt the flavor was not significantly enhanced. If you are looking for a traditional smoked flavor profile fish and an aesthetic experience that is a cut above these could be for you.

Beautiful fish, very shiny. Mild, delicate flavor. Texture made me think rubbery? But that doesn’t feel right. Little poky bit once in a while. Didn’t wow me but I enjoyed myself.

A nice tin filled with 7 small-medium sized sardines in a dark amber olive oil. The fish were definitely on the firmer side, with a tad bit of dryness texture-wise. The flavors of both the fish and smokiness were mild and agreeable. For whatever reason, I found Jose Gourmet’s same offering but with regular sized sardines (José Gourmet Smoked Sardines in Extra Virgin Olive Oil) to take on the smoke flavor better and to be better seasoned overall. Regardless, this is a solid tin that may be a nice alternative for those that find some Baltic sprats to be too smokey.

7 beautiful little fish in this tin. The smoke is on the lighter side than some other tins I’ve tried but it’s still there, and the texture of the fish was great – firm but not dry.

Wonderful, world-class deens!
What a delight to open this tin and see such beautiful, shining sardines. My tin had six gorgeous fish in it, bathing a dark orange oil. Not the smokiest sardine, but firm flesh and a terrific flavor. I ate these beauties on seeded bread toast, with strong English mustard, pickled onions and a splash of fresh lemon juice as well as on Club Cracker with lemon. Both ways were amazing. Looking forward to getting another tin of these.
