Sea Cucumber!
I didn’t even know this could be a food and I didn’t really know what to expect. They look a bit like calamari in the tin, but do not have that texture. It almost has the mouth texture of a green banana and the flavor itself is very delicate. A cracker will almost overpower the sea cucumber. I did try them with Espinaler Sauce and Balsamic drizzled on top. The Espinaler complimented them better, but definitely try it straight out of the tin.
I would say the flavor is between a crab and a clam or maybe similar to the fish cakes that you might find in a bowl of asian noodles.
Is it worth it? Of course. Now you can brag to your friends that you have eaten sea cucumber.

I’ve had several offerings from Güeyu Mar, and I’ve had sea cucmber in a restaurant somewhere in China. I was just not prepared for this tin. It was absolutely delicious. There were about a dozen or so of the sea cucumbers in the tin. They were a pearl color, similar to squid, but the texture and flavor was soft and sweet, like crabmeat. Frothing up the oil in the tin made a great sauce for them. I ate them straight from the tin, but I’m thinking they’d be good with eggs or a little rice. I wouldn’t add too much to these, the flavor is wonderful all by itself. If you are lucky enough to have a few extra bucks to spend on a tin, this is the one to get for sure.

This is a tin that should be on everyone’s bucket list. The texture is a bit reminiscent of crab, with a delicate, mildly sweet flavor. The oil is amazing drizzled on bread. I had some other people over to my house to sample 4 tins (this being one of them) Everyone agreed they had never had anything quite like it before, and everyone loved it. It was easily the most popular of all the tins.
I can’t recommend this highly enough. Just be aware that it is fairly rich because of all the oil, so you should consider pairing with some bread and perhaps have something citrusy to cut the oil in-between bites or after finishing, like some grapefruit wedges.
