I decided to try this tin after I was blown away by the squid pieces in ink of the same brand. I think these had pretty good flavor and a nice texture, but the sauce wasn’t as good the Don Gastronom Squid Pieces Ink Sauce . They might be a good choice for a special occasion if you’re going for presentation.

I love the sauce inside and the texture of the squid. It tastes excellent with aioli.

Presentation: 4/5– The squid pieces were nicely placed inside the tin and were fully intact; however, they were so tightly packed that it was pretty hard to actually take them out without breaking them apart. So -1 for that.
Texture: 3/5– Actually this is one of the nicer squid tins I’ve had. Firm without being rubbery. The squid themselves are stuffed with what I think are smaller squid. However, if I’m ranking this against other types of tinned seafood I think the texture is only average. Maybe I need to try more squid tins to really form a better opinion here.
Flavor: 3.5/5: The flavor of the sauce is quite nice and it’s really permeated into the squid. However I found that it was a bit… bland. I love squid ink sauce and this one kind of let me down a bit.
Overall: 3.5/5. I think I’d actually recommend trying the squid pieces version of this. I suspect the sauce will do a better job permeating into the pieces.
