    This was quite different than what I expected. As someone from the Southern USA, when I see “fried” I think “breaded”. This was definitely not the case. The mussels were perfectly cooked and preserved – gorgeously packed with ‘nere a broken mussel to be seen. The texture was neither too rubbery or too mealy – pretty close to perfect. The marinade that they’re in is very interesting. It’s got notes of olive oil, wine, and what I assume is red wine vinegar – tart and refreshing, a good contrast to the earthiness of the mussels. I would recommend (which I did not do) draining the tin and frothing the marinade. Aeration would probably take some of the tang out of it. Overall, 4/5 – could be a 5/5 with better preparation on my part.
